Getting Your Spouse on Board with Investing in Your Business

Holly Haynes getting your spouse on board with investing in your business

As I have shared multiple times, there are two things that really skyrocketed our business. The first one is joining a mastermind (which hint, hint ours is open), and the entire reason I created it was because I wish I would have taken that step earlier in my business. It made that much of a difference.

How Getting My Husband on Board Skyrocketed My Business

The second way we grew so fast was to get my husband Scott involved. I also think it is important to have this conversation because as a coach, one of the most popular responses I get when someone is looking to invest in something is, "let me talk with my husband/spouse/partner." This is awesome, but if I am being transparent, I would say 50% of those do not have the support or backing of their partner to invest in their business.

So let’s start with a story.

For the first year of my business, I pretty much worked in a silo. I tried to compartmentalize everything. This hour I am being a mom. The next hour I am at my corporate job, the next hour I am a podcast host, etc. I never blended the roles because I never thought I could.

And then I realized one late night that life can’t be compartmentalized. I didn’t want to be a podcast host one hour and mom the next so I decided to open up.

Be on the Same Page

I remember Scott and I sitting down (in this case I am probably profusely sweating because I hate any type of serious conversation) and I opened up about the business. I explained what groups I was a part of, how they helped me, what trainings I was taking, what I was learning, and the most important part, the vision for the future of the business.

I won’t lie and say this was an easy conversation because it was kind of like explaining a lifelong dream in a different language. My point is it took more than one conversation.

BUT, the moral of the story is that by opening up and sharing the vision and merging all roles, it was actually easier. I was no longer having to make decisions alone. I had someone to bounce ideas off of AND making a big investment became a lot easier.

The reason why I wanted to have this conversation is that working alone and in a silo was hard. And can only get you so far. I truly felt like when I opened up emotionally and strategically and involved our family, the game changed. Almost overnight.
